I suspect the $1bn figure for nineteen storms is low, that's probably just the cost to insurers. Storm Debby a mere Cat 1 was $12.3bn total, only $1.4bn insured.

Harris needs to get elected first, and can't kill the buzz with the truth on climate change. If I was a strategist, I would probably tiptoe around it, too. Let's hope she recognizes the gravity of the situation and addresses it seriously, assuming Trump goes down, which could become a crisis itself. I have no clue if she or Walz truly understand what we're up against now. I hope so.

Climate Action NOW!

We have to get off of fossil fuels as fast as possible, on an 'emergency' footing. What will it take to mobilize that kind of effort? We are looking at a grim decade in front of us.

Too late my fellow human. The train has one speed. 100% pedal to the floor. Stop the train and the explosion catches up to us and we die off very fast. Slow the train and we still accelerate the death but the suffering gets drawn out. Keep the train going the same speed as it is now and same result.

Inertia is a real bitch in physics unfortunately.

There is no getting off. There is only going to be forced off by nature and physics. That’s it. We will never willingly stop as a collective species. We’re too drunk in it. The EROEI is too lucrative.

Is it that hard to say “Democratic”? I know the right wingers love to mispronounce it and use improper grammar on purpose because that’s part of their whole schtick and how they signal to each other. Saying “democrat” as an adjective is meant as an insult and a dig. Can we not fall into their trap of petty rhetorical devices here? You said it correctly in the body of the article so why do that in the headline?

The Democratic National Convention was meant to be joyful and hopeful. That’s why the climate wasn’t dwelled upon. Not even forced births, a topic given quite a bit of time, is as depressing as the climate crisis. And giving women back the right to reproductive freedom in the US is a hell of a lot easier than addressing anthropogenic climate change which will be a worldwide effort.

Will Democrats actually do anything of substance? Come on, what's your bet? It seems clear to me that we will ride the climate disaster right into the ground. No matter who is in office, the POWER comes from the back room meetings we never hear about. Their strategy is clear: Build a bunker and wait it out. While the rest of us die.

There is no way these leaders today don’t understand the raw deal. They all play a part in keeping the moderate view intact. So much can’t be stopped now that we have to enjoy these final good times while we can. Plan your off-ramp people.
