No, I cannot “remember that we are all Americans and just be friends”.
Because, one side is acting like it wants a fight. And that’s too dangerous to ignore.
Let me ask you a question.
“How do you think a civil war starts?”
Not the triggering act of transgressive violence that marks the official start of military hostilities. Civil wars start long before those first shots are fired.
The buildup to a civil war can take decades.
However, the signal that things are coming to a head are several years of escalating transgressive violence. These happen just before military hostilities break out.
In the final years before hostilities erupt, there is usually a “precursor” period.
A period of escalating civil violence and “outrages” is a clear precursor signal of civil war or Rawanda style genocidal violence. The most important thing to know about this violence.
This precursor violence, is usually done by only one side. The side that wants war.

There are dozens of examples but here’s one that’s close to home. Again, let me ask you a question.
“What do you think happened to all the Loyalists in the American Revolution?”
You know, the Loyalists. The colonials who liked British rule and didn’t want to rebel.
The ones who were 30% of the population.
Because the “Traitorous Rebels”, the men who betrayed their country, our founding fathers, “The Revolutionaries”. They made up only about 30% of the population.
The Revolutionary War was actually the First American Civil War.
We went to war with each other and it was SAVAGE.
In the end about 30% of the population died or fled.
Our founding father’s went in for “political cleansing” in a big way.
Think about that, the Revolutionary War depopulated the Colonies by 30%. They butchered the Loyalists until the survivors fled to Canada or back to England.
The US Census site discusses this massive population decline by making it sound nice and voluntary.
In 1770, Boston, MA, was the third largest colonial city (behind Philadelphia, PA, and New York, NY) with 15,520 inhabitants. Many families left the city during the British occupation so that by 1780, its population had declined to approximately 10,000.
Other scholars have shown this depopulation happened across the Colonies. In identifying the extent of the urban damage, it has been found that the combined share of Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, and Charleston in a growing national population shrank from 5.1% in 1774 to 2.7% in 1790, recovering only partially to 3.4% in 1800.
America was born in a bloodbath.
That’s why there was no lingering “Pro British” faction after the war. That’s why no old “Loyalists” came out for the British in 1812. There were none left. They had all been murdered.
The Revolutionaries “cleansed” the Loyalists out of the population.
All of that violence was in addition to Washington fighting the various British Commanders. Who, it should be noted, never had more than about 22,000 regular troops at their disposal.
The size of the Loyalist commands? About 25,000.
The American Revolution was more of a civil war than a rebellion against a remote central government. However, we don’t like to remember that part of the story. We have edited that part out of our “founding myths”.
Here’s what was happening in the years leading up to the war.
A charming story about the “Sons of Liberty”, American Patriots, in Georgia.
In 1775 in Savannah, members of the Sons of Liberty seized loyalist John Hopkins from his house and publicly tarred and feathered him, then took him on a cart through the streets of Savannah for three hours.
Hopkins was not a government official but rather a local ship pilot. His offense the previous night was drinking to loyalist toasts the Sons of Liberty found offensive.
Hopkins escaped hanging by drinking to the toast: “Damnation to all Tories and success to American liberty!” Savannah Morning News
Think about that. The Revolutionaries, our founding fathers, were gangs of violent men in a paramilitary organization with a “Patriotic Sounding Name”.
They would burst into peoples homes. Haul them out into the street. Have a mock trial. Find them them guilty, and then tar and feather their victims.
Followed by hanging.
But not until their victim was hauled through the streets as a warning to other Loyalists. A very clear warning.
We know where you live. We can hurt you. We can hurt your family. We can murder you. The authorities cannot protect you.
You know what we call that today?
Terrorism.
In the years leading up to the war, ONLY THE REVOLUTIONARIES were doing this.
That’s how it almost always works.
The side that wants revolution, that wants to seize power. That’s the the side that wages a campaign of civil violence in the years before the war.
They want their opponents to be terrorized and cowed into surrender when the shooting starts. They want things to be violent and unsafe. They want people to be scared.
The Worse, the Better is the strategy of Revolutionaries.

The quotation, “The Worse, the Better,” means that if things get worse, then that will help them get better. It has wide application, but the main application is the idea that the political situation must get intolerable so people will rise up and so something about it, e.g. have a violent revolution.
Because scared, desperate, angry people will risk revolution and civil war.
Remember, the side that wants the war. Is the side doing the domestic terrorism in the years just before the war.
So, Let’s Talk about Guns. Because WHITE America has a lot of them.
No meaningful gun safety laws are going to be passed until Democrats have a bigger majority. Trumpublican America aka WHITE America won’t let it happen.
The unspoken fact is that most of the guns are owned by a handful of people. People who have an agenda. People who feel threatened. WHITE MEN, mainly.
A 2015 survey by Harvard and Northeastern researchers, gave the most in-depth estimate of Americans’ current patterns of gun ownership. It found that America’s “gun super-owners” have amassed huge collections.
Just 3% of American adults own a collective 133 million firearms. Half of America’s total gun stock.
These owners have collections that range from eight to 140 guns. Their average collection: 17 guns each.
Super-owners were less diverse than gun owners overall. With super-owners most likely to be male, WHITE, and say they own guns “for protection”.
The most racist White men in America. The ones who feel the most threatened by minorities. Have built up a huge stockpile of weapons for the “race war” they think is coming.
They vote.
They vote Trumpublican and the Trumpublican Party needs their votes.
That’s why gun control has not happened.
That’s why the Trumpublican stacked Supreme Court is rolling back state gun safety laws.
That’s why militia guys are suddenly everywhere. Trying to intimidate and harass urban voters.
Trying to intimidate and harass BLACK voters.
That's why we are having more than 1 “mass shooting” a day.
Only one side is doing this.
That’s why we cannot “just be friends”.
The rest of us, cannot trust you anymore.
